Janmashtami is celebrated in a grand way at my uncle’s place. But after coming to USA, we never noticed when Janmashtami came and went. This Janmashtami was special for us. A little balgopal was going to come in our lives soon. We also had a picture of balgopal just above our TV. It is said that our baby will look like the baby picture we keep in front of our eyes. Me and my husband had selected a cute balgopal picture and wanted our baby look like that baby.
I was not able to get any jhula like we get in India. So I decided to make one. Here isthe picture of the Jhula I made:

The place where we used to live had huge windows in our breakfast nook. I put my chunaris over the window curtains to get Indian look. I lighted up a palm tree to have a background.
I kept the decorations on a small table which I covered from cloth from Joann. We get cut pieces which are 2/3 sq feet at cheap prices here. I have them of various colors which I keep using for different occasions. I used mardi necklaces from dollar tree for decoration. My husband does not like them at all, but I thought they would add color to the whole decoration. I have also used ready made garland for Krishna idol. Indian decorations are incomplete without rangoli, I used kundan rangoli set my mom-in-law gave me. There are also available on amazon.com now. I got the kalash during my wedding which I put on a candle stand. I bought the matki from desi grocery store for Diwali previous year. Lastly, I made gopal kala for prasad.
